Today’s random scans posting action is the newest Hayate no Gotoku volume, released about one week and half ago.

A quick read, because it contained lot of splashes, and a large part about the crew taking a stroll in Athens. Though, it contained also the biggest revelations in the manga so far, which some of them probably causing the manga to take a whole new direction on some points in the future.

So the crew has finally arrived to Athens, which makes Hayate thinking about his childhood lover Athena (Athens and Athena are pronounced the same in japanese, ‘atene’).

Hayate learns from Hinagiku that Athena is actually Hakuou High School’s superintendent.

Again, Hayate loses his way while aimlessly strolling around, and ends up in a huge garden. And the boy meets the girl again.

But she doesn’t remember Hayate, and asks her butler to kick him out.

… or at least, that’s what she wanted him to believe~

Hayate learns from the Baka Trio that Hinagiku used to be friends with Athena, until they got an argument.

But that’s when Hinagiku tried to call Athena “A-tan” that their friendship came to an end. Thanks to that Hayate now knows that Athena actually remembers him.

The time for the promised dinner with Hinagiku (see previous volume) is coming ! And Hinagiku is finally decided to put her pride aside and to confess properly her love for Hayate ! :o

Hinagiku can finally enjoy her good time with Hayate~

After the dinner, Hinagiku asks to Hayate why he has been feeling down ever since they arrived to Athens, and Hayate tells her about what happened earlier with Athena and all…
Hinagiku : “To be honest, it’s quite unexpected that you and Tennousu-san actually know each others… Say, who is she to you exactly ?”

While Hayate is lost in his thoughts about Athena, Hinagiku thinks that it’s the perfect moment for confessing…

Hayate : “(Is it because I was interested in her ? I wanted to see her ? No, that’s not it… My feelings for her, are differents from the ones I have for other people. For me, she is…)”

Hayate : “(I see… I finally get it… She is…)”
Hinagiku : “Hayate-kun ! I always wanted to tell you, I lo-… ”
Hayate : “She is…”

Hayate : “… the person I love.”

Now THAT is what I call a huge turn of events. The main guy clearly made a decision on the girl he loves, and that’s a pretty rare thing in manga. Moreover that girl is none of the main heroines, but an ‘outsider’ of sort. And it probably, unless another turn of events in the future happens, puts an end to all the ‘Who will Hayate end up with ?’ stuff. It’s the Athena route. She won.

Since the author wants us to read the incoming Athena arc in one shot, volumes 23 and 24 will be released at the same time in April.

I dunno… A part of me wants to read the magazine scans for knowing what happens next, but I feel like cheating when doing that. So I guess I’ll just wait for the next books to be released…
