And here comes the random scans from the 17th volume of the Hayate no Gotoku manga, which was mostly about Hayate’s past, and how he met with his childhood girlfriend Athena-chan (who has been mentionned occasionally since the 9th volume). No need to mention that if you hate major spoilers, don’t scroll down.

After losing the last bit of love and respect he had for his father, Hayate’s mind goes blank and he starts running aimlessly until he collapses in a huge garden. And the boy meets the girl…

And the girl’s name is Athena Tennousu. Scary eyes o_o;

Finally the pic on the back cover was totally misleading, and I must say I was nicely surprised that in fact Athena isn’t Maria. Hehe you got me Hata-sensei XD

Athena, feeling that Hayate lost his will of live, asks him if he wants to be her butler.

Hayate suddenly starts calling Athena “Aa-tan”.
A : “What’s the deal with that Aa-tan thing ?”
H : “Eh ? That’s your nickname ! Athena, in short ‘Aa-tan'”
A : “Why does the number of characters raises
when you make it short ?!”
A : “But it’s ok, if you become my butler I will forgive you”

Aww they just met but slept together while holding hands.

Athena asks for a morning kiss, but Hayate
doesn’t really get the message…
Hayate : “Does your head hurt ?”
Athena : “That’s not it ! W- Well… I gave you
a lot (of kiss) yesterday, didn’t I ?”

Even I was embarrased when reading that. XD

Wow they’re living just like a cute little couple.
And here starts “Hayate the mini combat-butler” XD

At first, Hayate fails at work…

Athena –who just came out
from the bath– : “Put off some of your clothes”
Hayate : “… HA ? ///” XD
Athena decides to make him an efficiant butler by giving him the incredibly strong body he has now.

A couple of pages later, Hayate loses his way in the huge castle and ends up in a place that he should had not have entered…

Right page : scary ._.
Thankfully Athena rapidly comes to her senses, and tells Hayate that she will show him something more interesting…

Athena shows to Hayate a magic mirror which has the power to show people the viewer knows. Since Maria is appearing, does it mean that Athena met Maria-san before ? Or is it just because the author felt again like drawing loli Maria just like on the back cover ? XD

Athena is angry at Hayate cause he said the girl in the mirror was super cute~ XD
She’s such a tsundere :)

H : “Because I… love you… Aa-tan…”
A : “… I can’t hear you… with this voice…”
H : “Eh ?”
A : “I can’t hear you with such a low voice ! If you want to say my name, then say it louder ! From here ! So that you can hear it throughout the world !”
H : “AA-TAN !”
A : “… L-… Louder !”
H : “AA-TAN !!!”
H : (I wonder how many times I have shouted)

You really don’t want their happy little days to end, but…

Athena teachs swordsmanship to Hayate.

A : “One day, you too will be able to use this sword.”

Even if Hayate doesn’t care about his father anymore, he starts missing his mother.

Athena tells Hayate how to go out from the castle, but makes him promise to come back immediately after seeing his mother. <3 <3 <3

Once outside the castle, Hayate suddenly meets… loli Izumi ! :o

Thanks to the power he got from Athena, Hayate kicks the dog who was menacing Izumi away.

Izumi : “Since you saved me, let me give you something
in return~ <3”

Izumi : “See you later, Hayata-kun~”
Finally Hayate doesn’t get the chance to see his mother and goes back to the castle…

They don’t sleep while holding hands because she saw Hayate being kissed thanks to the mirror XD

H : “Don’t you want to live with me outside the castle ?”

Athena doesn’t understand why Hayate wants to go back living at his parents’ house, and Hayate tells her that he thinks he can make them change like he changed himself.

After that Athena refused to go live outside the castle with him, Hayate once again leaves the castle and walk aimlessly in the streets, until he meets again with Izumi. He tells her his problems with Athena, and Izumi suggests that he should make her a present for making up.

And that’s how Hayate began to work for money~

Athena gives him a ring in return.
I wonder where is that ring now… :o

Hayate leaves again the castle for telling his parents about Athena, and here ends this volume. OMG TEASER !

In the omake manga, Nagi asks the cast about faults they made in the past.
Hinagiku : “Long ago when I was a child,
Okaa-san was… Oka-… T_T ”
Maybe a hint that next volume will have a large part
about Hinagiku’s past ?

Next volume is released in two weeks in Japan.
